If your stockbroker scares you, worries you or, even worse, intimidates you, this is not the type of situation that you want to be in. While it is not always going to be easy to find someone that you genuinely like, it is necessary to find someone that you know you can trust and someone you know is working with you, not against you.

Find out if your stockbroker is working with any affiliations. If he or she is working with other groups, he may be pushing purchases and sales to you that will benefit him on this end. Although this is not common, if you do not ask them about affiliations they may have, do not assume that they do not have any.

When working with a stockbroker, make sure they understand your risk tolerance. Everyone has a different level of risk tolerance and it is a person situation. Do not assume that your stockbroker understands what yours is though. Talk to them to insure they are on the same page as you are.
